A business lead was recently received by the Canadian Consulate in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Mexican owned and operated company located in Zitacuaro, Michoacan, Mexico produces various medical-related products (tongue depressors, for example) out of wood. This company recently signed a deal with a large ice cream company in Mexico for the production of small wooden spoons for ice cream, and is looking to source tasteless and odourless wood (aspen or poplar) from Canada for this production.

Here are the log specifications:

Species: Trembling Aspen, Bigtooth Aspen or Balsam Poplar (tasteless and odourless)
Format: log
Length: 1.35 metres OR 2.70 metres
Diameter: between 30 centimetres and 60 centimetres
Quantity: current production calls for 100 metres per month, but the company is hoping to double production in the medium term.
