Directory of Poplars and Poplar Clones

ANNOUNCEMENT

The Genetics and Breeding Working Group of PCC has been working for some time to improve the Council's poplar clone directory. The directory was put together in 1986 and was available only in paper format.

The Poplar Council awarded a contract to Paprican to convert the directory into electronic database format and to incorporate the related databases from several public and private organizations currently involved in poplar breeding programs in Canada.

The new directory is an electronic, searchable database of poplars and poplar clones in Canada. It includes information, as available, on source, collection or breeding history, parentage and testing of clones and hybrids. Access to the database will soon be available. The product will be a very useful reference for PCC members, individuals and organizations, and will help to coordinate poplar genetics and breeding work across the country. Watch the PCC website at www.poplar.ca for further developments.
