a number of operational research support programs, including the
ENFOR Program of forest bioenergy R & D. Jim has been a member
of the Poplar Council since 1985, and has been a member of the
Board of Directors for most of that time. He served as chair from

How We Operate
PCC has an elected board of directors and an executive
council which coordinate programs and services. The Board meets
several times a year, in person or by teleconference. View
PCC by-laws (rev. Sep 2009).
Members receive the newsletter, meeting notices,
special publications, and annual reports.

Services
Provided by the Poplar Council of Canada
The information and services provided by the PCC
cover all aspects of the poplar and willow resource. We undertake
studies and review of poplar resources, management and utilization
and have an excellent base of information and expertise in our
members' and data sources.
We provide the following types of information
and services:
Poplar Council
of Canada Newsletter
The newsletter is usually published twice each
year with highlights from coast to coast, special research notes,
member profiles, and general interest articles.
The current issue of the PCC Newsletter is available
to PCC members in the !
password-access Members Only
section. If you are not a member of the PCC, you can read the
most recent back issues.
Reports
and Publications
Special publications, annual meeting proceedings,
field tours, and workshops are among the activities arranged by
the PCC and its members. Some publications
are available on this site.
Research
We assist in the process of research on poplar
issues through contract administration, lobbying for funding,
member contacts, and technological committees to evaluate projects
and knowledge gaps. Although not a research agency, the PCC regularly
publishes current information from research for its members.
Through Alberta Pacific Forest Industries, PCC
supplied cuttings of poplar plus trees (Populus deltoides and
P. trichocarpa) for a tree breeding and planting program in northern
China. This was under an FAO project with Belgian involvement.
International
We are a full member of the International Poplar
Commission and participate in their meetings and elected boards
of officials. We also maintain very close linkages with the Poplar
Council of the U.S. and hold joint meetings every few years.
PCC, as Canada's national 'poplar commission',
is involved with the International Poplar Commission (IPC), which
is a Statutory Body of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
of the United Nations. Through IPC, PCC has links with poplar
and willow scientists throughout the world. PCC has copies available
of the IPC Directory of Poplar and Willow Scientists. Several
PCC members are actively involved in the work of the Executive
Committee and Working Parties of IPC.
The 21st Session of the IPC took place in the Pacific
Northwest in September 2000, hosted jointly by the Poplar Council
of the US and PCC. The 22nd Session took place in Santiago, Chile
in November-December 2004. The 23rd Session took place in Beijing,
China in late November 2008.
